Overview of the tour

  • Hike a short 1-mile hike through a desert canyon located next to one of the Valley’s most beloved lakes and enjoy the opportunity to cool off in the water and absorb the calming serenity. Keep an eye out for wild burros along the way.
  • Drive past breathtaking granite tors, remnants of ancient volcanic batholiths.
  • Drive along 6 miles of the famous Desert Foothills Scenic Drive where you will have opportunities to see stands of Saguaro cacti and gorgeous custom-built homes.
  • Observe Water to Water by artists Christine Tanz and Paul Edwards. This piece of art explores the water cycle of our city and how we can conserve this precious resource.
  • Visit the Scottsdale Xeriscape Garden, a National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat. Here we will learn about water conservation, water harvesting, and plant selection.
  • Explore WaterWorks at Arizona Falls, commissioned by the Phoenix Arts Commission. Here you can learn about the technical achievements of the past as you discover how this recommissioned hydroelectric power plant from the early 1900s continues to generate clean renewable electric energy to sustain life in our harsh climate.
